For the last 2 semesters of my Master's in Medical Product Engineering I and my team set out to create a solution to move Ear Tube Procedures outside of the OR. Working with our Clinical Mentor Dr. Noel Jabbour we created Microtymp, a surgeon friendly device designed to work within the existing equipment surgeons are comfortable with. The device features a dissolvable introducer and expandable tube to allow for a one step, minimal pain insertion. This semester I was tasked on creating the tip and experimenting with different materials; specifically rock candy. Shown above is one of the best iterations I created, all though it showed early promise it was difficult to progressively improve the prototypes. Also this semester we entered our idea in the Wells Healthtech Competition and won 3rd place and a prize of $5,000, from which I put into my practice my knowledge of showcasing a product's value and promise.
